Overview
Text Input (Single line) gives the technician a one-line box to type into. Use it for anything short - a name, a model number, a meter reading taken as text.
Step by step: add a single-line text field
- Select the section it belongs in.
- Click Text Input (Single line) under + Add Fields.
- Type the question in Heading.
- Tick Is Mandatory field if it must be answered.
Its own setting
- Example text (used in previews) - sample text shown in the Mobile and Report previews, so you can judge the layout. It is never shown to the technician or saved.
It also has the settings most fields share - see Settings most fields share.
On the phone and the report
The phone shows a plain one-line box. The report prints the heading and the answer, laid out by the section’s type.
There is no length limit and no format checking - the field takes whatever is typed. For a number that needs limits, use a Number field.
When to use something else
- A longer answer - Text fields (multi-line).
- A choice from a list - Multiple Choice.
- The person filling it in - Username, which fills itself in.
